The 2nd EP from Behold… the Arctopus. Music written in 2003.
“This was before I had a studio, so it was recorded in early 2004 at the tiny in-house studio at the school Mike and I were going to at the time (same as the first EP, but with better sound the 2nd time. Also the same studio where Orthrelm, "OV" was recorded). This was the transition between Mike and I writing collaboratively, both contributing riffs to a song ("Exospacial Psionic Aura"). "Sensory Amusia" was the first song where I wrote both warr and guitar parts. Then "Estrogen..." was the first song where I notated all of everyone's parts, warr, guitar, and full drum kit. The single-composer method would be the way we'd continue all the way up through "Cognitive Emancipation." Recently with "Hapeleptic Overtrove" I went back to writing on the instruments and not notating anything. We played these songs live a ton, and in those early years of live Arctopus (2003 - 2008) we really let the tempos and energy get totally out of control. So it's nice to revisit the less off-the-rails studio versions, and encouraging that this old recording still has a lot of life and energy.”
